The New York State Attorney General has deemed Daily Fantasy Sports in New York as illegal and while I disagree with him and his ruling FanDuel is still offering their million dollar tournaments this week and here we go.
Keep in mind we are looking for two points for every dollar of salary spent as well as looking for players that have high ceilings. Usually these players have extremely low floors so you would use the following examples in GPP tournaments.
QB: Eli Manning ($7,400) has had a topsy turvy season. He’s laid some stinkers and he’s had some huge games. This Sunday he’s more than likely going to be throwing the ball until his arm falls off as his Giants and their NFL worst passing defense goes up against Tom Brady and the Patriots. The over under here is 55 points and with the Patriots a seven and a half point favorite this could be a big night for Manning.
RB: Todd Gurley ($9,200) is absolutely killing it for the Rams this season. With a floor of 15.9 points and a ceiling of 30 points it’s no wonder he’s priced so high….and worth every penny too. This Sunday Gurley is up against a Bears rushing defense allowing 121.6 yards per game. I don’t care how high Gurley’s ownership is or even how high the price tag he is a must have this Sunday.
RB: James Starks ($6,000) is now the starting RB for the Green Bay Packers replacing last season’s DFS hero Eddie Lacy. Starks has had two 20 point FanDuel outputs in the last 3 weeks and his matchup against a Detroit Lions rushing defense allowing 133 yards per game an opportunity for great value out of the running back position this Sunday!
WR: Odell Beckham Jr ($8,800) is much like his QB Manning; he’ll lay a stinker or two with his incredibly low floor of 5.5 indicates and he can rock and roll as his extremely high ceiling of 35 suggests. The Patriots pass defense are allowing receivers 244 yards a game with just two plays of 40 yards or more. In a game like this with a low floor high ceiling combo like Manning and Beckham Jr are this is an obvious choice on Sunday.
WR: Stefon Diggs ($6,600) would ordinarily be a no brainer value pick this week but with QB Teddy Bridgewater possibly out with a concussion this might be a risky play. If Bridgewater plays on Sunday this is an incredible matchup against an Oakland Raiders passing defense allowing 314 passing yards a game and 7 plays of over 40 yards. Bridgewater is the key here and if for some reason he doesn’t play you can pivot to several players like Michael Crabtree ($6,400) or Martavis Bryant ($6,500).
WR: Jordan Matthews ($6,600) is another one of those low ceiling high floor players who will either make you or break you in a GPP tournament. This week he has an interesting matchup with a Dolphins passing defense allowing 242 yards to receivers per game with 6 plays of over 40 yards. The over under in this one is 48 points that should mean quite a few opportunities for Matthews to have another one of those 20 plus FanDuel points outings.
TE: Jordan Reed ($5,800) has been very consistent this season. With a floor of 4.2 and a ceiling of 24.7 with the majority of his games exceeding 2 points per $1000 dollars of salary makes Reed a very sound punt play this weekend. His matchup this week is against a Saints defense that is second worst against tight ends. The 50 point over under and Washington’s opponent suggests the ball is going to be flying in Washington on Sunday.
K: Josh Brown ($4,800) is my kicker this week. Normally I would have gone with the Patriots Gostkowski but Brown has been solid and he has scored in double digit FanDuel points 5 times this season and there really isn’t’ that much difference between the two other than the Patriots are a more consistent offense. The over under is perfect and Brown should provide plenty of value on Sunday.
Defense: The Pittsburgh Steelers ($4,600) have an extremely favorable match-up against the Cleveland Browns this Sunday. This game has the lowest over under (41) on this weekend’s slate and the Steelers are currently favored by 4.5 points. As a defense the Steelers are middle of the road in terms of total yards but their defense is much better than the Browns offense so I think the Steelers should be good to go on Sunday!
